-Description

The first model of the Grand Seiko was born with the determination to "manufacture the world's finest wristwatch", and with all the component precision, assembly technology and adjustment techniques of Seiko.

Its catchphrase is "Accurate and matchless, a watch you'll be proud to own for a lifetime".

The design is very standard.

The caseback has a lion's mark medallion.

The design of lion medalion shows later type caseback.

The Grand Seiko logo at the bottom of the dial at 12 o'clock is an engraved logo. It is often referred to as "carved logo dial".

Among the carved logo dials, this one is very especially rare.

The serial number indicates that this watch was produced on June 1961.

June 1961, just when the production of "raised logo" was started.

A very small number of transitional pieces exist that have a mixture of both "carved" and "raised" characteristics.

The Rolex Submariner Ref. 168000, refered "Triple Zero" is a similar example.

This watch likewise exists only during a small production period, existing between the "carved" and "raised" periods.

It does not have a special name in Japan, but is distinguished as "Transitional" among foreign collectors.

The most easily recognizable part of the carved dial is the flat hands, which are characteristic of the raised logo, while the carved dial is considered to have mountain-shaped hands.

This watch was purchased from Mr. Yoshihiko Honda a.k.a BQ(@bqwatch) who is leading expert of vintage seiko.

All components and authenticity are checked by him as well.
