-Description
The Tank watch was born when Louis Cartier, the third generation of the Cartier family, designed the Tank in 1917 and released the first model in 1919.
The design of this tank is said to have been based on the blueprints of the Renault FT-17 tank that appeared during World War I, which is also where the name "tank" comes from.
This watch, incorporating Art Deco design, attracted many fans, who were called Tankists, including Muhammad Ali, Princess Diana, and Yves Saint Laurent.
Among them, Andy Warhol is said to have worn a manual-winding model without even winding the mainspring, and this story also shows that the appeal of the Tank lies in its style.
The Tank Louis Cartier (hereafter referred to as Tank LC) was born in 1922 and, as its name suggests, was a favorite model of Louis Cartier himself. This is the original Tank and is generally manufactured with an 18K gold case.
This Ref. 1600B is a hand-wound Tank LC produced in the 1990s. It is part of the CPCP (Cartier Paris Collection Privée).
The case is made of 18K yellow gold. It is an LM size (men's) measuring 23.5mm wide and 30mm long. Because it was a men's size at the time, it is suitable for both men and women. As the name "extra flat" suggests, it is exceptionally thin, measuring just 4.5mm thick.
The dial is an original white Roman dial, featuring the intricate floral guilloché pattern characteristic of CPCP. The CARTIER PARIS inscription is also a major CPCP signature.
The movement is a hand-wound Cal. 21, an ultra-thin movement from Frederic Piguet, a familiar sight in the Tank Louis Cartier.
Frederic Piguet is a company that has supplied movements not only to Cartier, but also to luxury brands such as Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin.
It is fitted with an aftermarket black leather strap and buckle, but also comes with a genuine 18K yellow gold Deployant-buckle and genuine leather strap.
It also comes with the original CPCP box.
